Garrett cracks me up!! I wanted to write down a couple of the funny things he’s done lately.
He likes to hide by our bedroom door where the kitchen cabinets end. If he’s in his hiding spot and you get too close, he’ll shake his head and try to push you away.
He started picking up rocks outside, when we’re playing. The other day he had two in one hand and one in the other. There was another one that he wanted to pick up, so he tried putting one of the rocks in his mouth so he could pick up another one.
This morning when he woke up, he took everything off one of the bookshelves looking for more Easter eggs.
Garrett is a very picky eater. We have a difficult time getting him to eat dinner. Every now and then he’ll surprise us though. First it was sloppy joes. He wouldn’t eat it off the bread and was throwing a big fit, so Mike started eating his dinner. A little bit later he notices, Garrett eating the pieces of meat off of his tray. He ate a leaf of spinach. I was having a salad and he wanted an olive, but I gave him some spinach instead. He actually put it in his mouth and ate part of it, no dressing or anything. Last week I made enchiladas, he didn’t want anything to do with it, and then all of a sudden he ate a couple of pieces of it.
Another food one, we had bratwurst for dinner Sunday night a couple of weeks ago, and he ate almost a whole bratwurst. The next night, it was like poison, he wouldn’t touch it!! Tuesday night we were finishing them up and he didn’t want any part of it, so I was warming up some left over macaroni and cheese for him to eat. Well, he ate his macaroni and cheese fine. After that was all gone, he started eating the bratwurst. He ate almost an entire one.
He has a book called The Toolbox. It lists a bunch of things that go in a toolbox, and what they do. Well, when Mike reads this story to him, he likes to make the sound effects. The sandpaper makes a scratchy sound, so when they get to that page Garrett will scratch the page and Mike will make the sound.
Mooserson (his lovey) stays in his bed all the time. Whenever the door to his room is open, he tries to sneak in and steal Mooserson out of bed. It’s so cute.
Today, Mike was leaving for work. I have to pick Garrett up so he doesn’t hang on Mike’s legs. Well, Mike rubbed my arm as he was about to leave, and then Garrett rubbed it the exact same way.
When I’m getting his breakfast ready, he always wants me to pick him up. Once I get his oatmeal going, I’ll come and sit down in the living room. As soon as I sit down, he wants to get down. He likes being carried when you are walking around, but the second you sit down, he’s done with it.
Goodnight Moon is the last book we read to him before bed or nap time. We know it by heart so we usually just recite it to him. When we start saying it to him before bed or nap time, he’ll start sucking his thumb and laying his head down on our shoulders. One day he was having a hard time calming down and going to sleep, after I’d put him in bed. I went back in his room, picked him up and started saying Goodnight Moon to him again, but he wouldn’t relax. So I laid him down in my arms, so I was cradling him, while I said the Goodnight Moon story to him. He reached his little arm up and put his hand over my mouth so I’d stop saying it. It was so funny!
We always say goodnight prayers before bedtime. Lately, he’ll fold his hands when we say them. So sweet!
